Sauna is the most known Finnish word in the United States, within and outside of the Finnish-American community. While many people in the United States have experienced sauna at hotels, spas and gyms, in the time of COVID-19, home saunas have become popular additions.

National Sauna Week will build awareness and appreciation of this aspect of Finnish and Finnish-American culture. Read more about the global success of Finnish sauna.

Finlandia Foundation National is developing:

  • fact sheets about the history, types and benefits of sauna
  • fun facts, games, quizzes, recipes, books, music and other sauna stuff
  • links to sauna resources—individuals, organizations, media and companies
  • connections with FFN chapters and other organizations to plan events and information campaigns during that week in February
  • a week-long social media campaign with sauna info, tips, photos, songs and fun facts and, importantly, how to pronounce “sauna”
