Why is Finland the happiest country in the world? This time, CBS Saturday Morning travelled all the way to Finland to find out. During their visit, we had the pleasure of welcoming the CBS team to Löyly Helsinki, one of Finland’s most iconic public saunas, where we introduced them to the heart of Finnish wellbeing: the sauna experience.

During the interview, Carita Harju, the Executive Director of Sauna From Finland, explained that she doesn’t enjoy the sauna for any scientific reason, but for something deeper and more personal.
This captures the essence of Finnish happiness: finding joy in simplicity, connection, and presence. The sauna is not just a wellness practice; it is a ritual of balance and authenticity. It brings people together, encourages reflection, and offers space to simply be.

Alongside the sauna visit, the CBS crew explored the Oodi Library, a symbol of Finnish values such as openness, learning, and community. Through these visits, they discovered that Finland’s happiness is not only about its world-class institutions or efficient social systems, but also about something more human: a deep sense of contentment with what you have.
