“This year’s workshops range from how to design and build a Finnish sauna in a wellness space to learning about Sauna from Finland’s authentic sauna quality certification,” says Carita Harju, founder and executive director of Sauna from Finland.
The designing and building a Finnish sauna workshop will be led by Studio Puisto Architects, which has been responsible for the design of several major sauna projects in Finland and around the world.
“The roots of sauna culture run so deep in Finnish culture and history that there is endless inspiration for new projects. Designing a cohesive, functional, and beautiful sauna is already challenging in itself, but when you incorporate all the historical layers, rituals, and traditions, it forms a complex entity that at its best can create an unforgettable experience for users,” says Mikko Jakonen, one of Studio Puisto’s founding partners and principal architects.
In the Friday workshop, participants will delve into sauna design through practical solutions, ambiance, spatial sequences, and experiential aspects. An integral part of Studio Puisto’s design philosophy is participatory collaboration that begins with a workshop.
In Sauna from Finland’s authentic sauna quality certification workshop, participants can find out more about the certification which is granted for the unity of the whole sauna experience in four different categories: urban, nature & garden, spa, and unique.
This year’s workshops and experiences take place on Friday morning, on the second day of the two-day World Sauna Forum 2024 event, which takes place June 6-7, 2024 in Jyväskylä, in the heart of Finnish Lakeland.
There are seven different options for workshops and experiences:
- Learning about the authentic Finnish sauna quality certificate
- Designing and building a Finnish sauna
- Taking an exclusive trip to Harvia, the global leader in the sauna and spa market
- Enjoying a wellness morning with a run around the local lake led by athlete Sari Puumala, followed by a sauna
- Sampling products and experiences at the Sauna and Wellness Market at Sataman Viilu
- Stretching with sauna yoga sessions led by sauna yoga founder Tiina Vainio
- Relaxing in a small sauna therapy workshop.
Tickets are going quickly for World Sauna Forum 2024, but there are still a few spots left for the two-day event which neatly complements Sauna Region Week, which takes place in the area from June 3-9, 2024.
