Revitalizing Hotel Sauna Facilities: A Success Story
At Finlandia Hotel Alba, Jyväskylä, Finland, CEO Katri Paakkari led a project to revamp their sauna, aiming to improve its worn-out condition and boost guest satisfaction. We caught up with Katri to discuss the renovation journey and its impact.
“We needed a sauna facelift,” Katri explains. “Years of heavy use had taken its toll, so we decided it was time for a change.”
The hotel´s collaboration with Sauna from Finland proved to be pivotal. “They guided us through the process, helping us choose durable solutions,” Katri says. “From benches to heaters, their expertise was very valuable.”
The results were immediate. Guests have loved the upgraded sauna, leading to requests for extended women’s sauna hours. “Feedback has been fantastic,” Katri shares. “Especially during summer, when guests can cool off with a swim in the nearby lake.” But the renovation wasn’t limited to the sauna itself. Hotel Alba revamped the dressing room for added comfort and functionality. “We focused on practical improvements, like better lighting and more towel hooks,” Katri mentions. “Plus, we added versatile furniture for meetings or relaxation.” Sustainability was also a priority. “We reused the old sauna’s heater and chose eco-friendly materials,” Katri explains. “It’s part of our commitment to responsible hospitality.”
The project was a team effort, with contributions from various professionals. “Our interior designer, local builders, and suppliers all played a role,” Katri acknowledges. “Their expertise was crucial to the project’s success.” Looking ahead, Katri is eager to keep improving. “Receiving the Authentic Finnish Sauna Experience certificate was a boost,” she says. “It gave us ideas for future enhancements and inspired us to keep raising the bar.”
