The statutory autumn meeting of Sauna from Finland ry elected a new board for the year 2024. Marjo Määttä, CEO of Salonki Travels Oy, was elected as the new chairman of the board. Marjo has been a member of the board of Sauna from Finland for years.
The autumn meeting of the association was organized on Thursday 9 November 2023 in the sauna restaurant Löyly, Helsinki. We heard greetings to our new chairman via remote connection.
“Hello everyone, my name is Marjo and I am 55 years old, raised in a family of entrepreneurs and an entrepreneur from Kuusamo. My family includes my husband, three daughters, sons-in-law and one grandchild. I am a specialist nurse and sauna therapist by training. I have worked as a nurse for more than 15 years in versatile positions in the city of Kuusamo and in the private sector.
I became a full-time entrepreneur in 2001 and have trained in a variety of ways, e.g. for the position of managing director, and in the field of inter-tumor sales. I have been on the board of Suomen Yrittäjänaiset ry for four years (2019-2023), the last year of which I served as vice-chairman. In addition, I am currently active on the boards of four companies, as well as on the boards of the Kuusamo Yrittäjänaiset ry and Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Yrittäjät. I have also completed the HHJ training.
With a family business from Kuusamo, I have been developing a high-quality Finnish sauna experience (SaunaTour Kuusamo Lapland brand), which is one of the most successful sauna products both in Finland and internationally.”
Tourism and sauna are on the rise in the world
Marjo’s innovativeness and activity have already been an example for hundreds of other sauna service companies. Marjo understands the importance of productized, high-quality and controlled sauna services for business. “I want to highlight the importance of networks and cooperation across industries. Tourism and sauna are on the rise in Finland and internationally. The word sauna is the most searched word in the world when you google Finland. The services of the tourism industry are a business card and a brochure for all products related to the sauna industry, such as heaters, detergents and food.
Sauna from Finland is a significant player both in Finland and abroad. The association is a network of companies and there is power in networks. Our association takes care of the quality level of the Finnish sauna through education and information.
