In a world where notifications follow us everywhere, the Finnish sauna remains one of the last sacred places untouched by digital noise. By nature, the sauna is a quiet, device-free space. Phones simply don’t belong there — not only because the heat and humidity would destroy them, but because the essence of the sauna experience depends on presence, privacy, and peace.
While water-resistant phones already exist, let’s hope “sauna-proof” phones never become a trend. Some places deserve to stay analogue. In public saunas, bringing a phone is already restricted for good reason: to protect everyone’s privacy. No photos, no recording, no distractions — just the shared understanding that the sauna is a safe, calm, and respectful space.
And perhaps that’s exactly what we need more of today: environments where our minds can finally rest. Moments when silence replaces scrolling. Spaces where we can pause, breathe, and be fully present. The Finnish sauna is perfectly suited for this.

A Mindful, Phone-Free Sanctuary
I will gladly admit that I have been very dependent on my digital devices. Music, audiobooks, and TV series — all just one tap away. My screen time has probably doubled year after year, and I’m not especially proud of it.
When everything in life becomes digital, it becomes increasingly important to carve out moments that are not. To step outdoors, read a real book, paint with watercolours — or, most importantly, go to the sauna.
There is something profoundly liberating about leaving your phone behind and listening, for once, to what your own mind has to say. At home, my own sauna has become an essential part of how I recover and disconnect from everyday demands. It is one of the very few places where I can be completely free from alerts, messages, and noise. A place where doing nothing is not only allowed but encouraged.
For me, this is the ultimate digital detox. Nothing relaxes me as deeply as a good, peaceful sauna session.

Sauna as a Phone-Free Zone — Now and Always
Let’s celebrate the Finnish sauna as a space where time slows down and the modern world stays outside — even if just for a moment. A place to unwind, reflect, and reconnect with ourselves.
In an age where our minds are constantly pulled in every direction, the sauna reminds us of something beautifully simple:
Sometimes the best therapy is being completely offline.
